I came to live in Uist with my family in the summer of 2007. We had been visiting these islands for several years and by moving here we were looking for a different way of life, a secure environment for our children, an opportunity to live in an amazing landscape with abundant wildlife and be part of a close-knit community. I was also looking for an opportunity to develop my photography which had been an absorbing hobby for much of my life and which I had always wanted to take further.
I have found myself taking on all kinds of photographic projects from weddings to commercial contracts. However my passion still remains with photographing landscapes and the wildlife that inhabits them. We are incredibly lucky to have a unique landscape all around us which has been moulded by the, sometimes very obvious, forces of nature. Equally the wildlife is very special and each season brings a change in the order of things. The family loves to look out for the first arrivals of our winter visitors, such as the whooper swans, and the first sight of butterflies, wheatear and orchids, and our favourite, the short-eared owl, is greeted with delight.
In my photographs I try to reflect the feelings we have for our island life.
